Currently the Northfield, NJ club is seeking a full-time Membership Sales Director to lead its sales team. This position supervises Membership Sales Consultants.

Membership Sales Director Position Purpose and Responsibility:

  • To ensure the club achieves or exceeds all of its membership sales and growth goals.
  • Provides information and guidance to prospective members regarding club facilities and programs that will help them meet their wants and needs.
  • Enroll prospective members on the most appropriate membership to help them achieve their goals.
  • To service existing members by exceeding their expectations, helping to solve their problems, and add to their level of motivation to keep them committed to the club.

Membership Sales:

  • Plan and manage the overall day to day activities of the Membership Sales functions within the club.
  • Recruit, hire and train new Membership Consultants, as needed.
  • Establish and manage sales prospecting activities for department and ensure expectations are being met by the Membership Consultants.
  • Provide management reporting to General Manager.
  • Determine the desires, wants and needs of the prospective member by performing a proper Needs Analysis on all Qualified Guests via the Guest Courtesy Card.
  • Provides information to prospective members in person or over the phone regarding club facilities and programs that suit their individual desires, wants and needs. Converts telephone inquiries into club visits. Gives tours and trial memberships to prospective members.
  • Influences other staff members to perform at their maximum capability. Motivates and inspires co- workers.
  • Tracks Sales Rep. productivity through monthly sales summaries.

Corporate Sales:

  • Manage and service existing corporate sales relationships.
  • Coordinate company's corporate sales communications for all new and existing accounts.
  • Establish and meet corporate/group sales goals with a minimum of three corporate presentations each month.
  • Act as single source for the club's corporate sales contacts.


Works closely with Marketing to accomplish the following:

  • Prepare annual marketing calendar mapping out advertising and promotion time lines and all critical dates.
  • Coordinate all activities necessary to implement marketing plan.
  • Track invoices ensuring accuracy and prepare club allocation schedule for reimbursement.
  • Track prospect responses to quantify marketing results.
  • Manage company communications to ensure all staff are aware of current and upcoming promotions.

Community and Public Relations:

  • Coordinate all health fairs and community membership opportunities.
  • Manage company community involvement initiatives.
  • To attend at least one (1) Community or Chamber of Commerce Event each month.

Membership Sales Director Qualifications:

Education: Four year college degree preferred.

Experience: Two to four years of sales experience preferred, especially within the fitness industry.

Attributes: Requires an outgoing personality with the ability to effectively communicate with others. Requires a sincere interest and enthusiasm in one's own fitness and helping others achieve their health and fitness goals. Requires the ability and desire to learn more about fitness, interpersonal communications, and marketing strategies.
