Currently the Northfield, NJ club is seeking a full-time Personal Training Director to join its fitness and wellness team. This position reports to the General Manager and supervises the Fitness Staff.

Personal Training Director Position Purpose and Responsibility:

To optimize member experiences through:

  • Management of the club's overall fitness programs as well as the recruitment, supervision and development of associated staff.
  • New Member Integration (with special focus on members not ready for or interested in a weight loss program or personal training).
  • Member Retention through programming and proper launching of all new members.
  • Supplementary services (floor instruction, educational offerings, creative programming which maximizes member club usage & programming revenues).
  • Creation, implementation and evaluation of fitness programs for members.
  • To enhance public reputation through community affair involvement, participation and innovation in club marketing and improved programs; respond to member suggestions/challenges.

Personal Training / Fitness Director Specific Duties:

  • Create a unique and vibrant club member experience.
  • Maintains department staff by recruiting, screening and hiring dynamic people for fitness programs and activities. Conducts and/or coordinates training programs of all fitness staff.
  • Evaluates fitness staff progress by conducting monthly meetings, development of in-house and external education programs, and leading performance evaluations.
  • Collaborates and communicates with the management team on current and future fitness programming.
  • Manages department administrative requirements (weekly/monthly reports; budget preparation); and meets or exceeds financial and other measured goals.
  • Maintains quality of programs by on-going assessment of staff, programs and the club's physical environment (equipment and cleanliness).
  • Manages and audits Personal Trainer and Fitness Staff schedules, including the club's Master Training schedule.
  • Submits proper and accurate payroll, personnel, and related paperwork.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by remaining current with industry trends and networking with vendors, peers and competition.
  • Coordinates special projects within the department. 
  • Writes or submits articles for internal/external marketing ventures or newsletters, as required.
  • Contributes to entire club's team efforts, collaborates with other departments to maximize club performance and members service.

Programming/Fitness Department Management:

  • Ensure that at least 80% of all new members are utilizing their complimentary consultation sessions within their first 5 days of membership.
  • Ensure that at a minimum 5% of the overall member base is participating in club based programs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete personnel files for each Fitness staff member.
  • Produce and analyze productivity/service reports on new member launching and personal training/weight loss programming.
  • Ensure that all fitness and other department related revenue budgets are realized and that associated expense budgets are managed within stated parameters.
  • Hold regular Department and individual meetings to review performance and ensure that the individuals and team are meeting Departmental Goals in New Member launching and participation.
  • Ensure through continuous interaction with other department managers including Sales and Member Services (front desk staff) that respective expectations and responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Ensure that all fitness equipment remains in good working order and the facility stays clean to Tilton/Meridian/Can Do Fitness standards. 

 

Personal Training / Fitness Director Qualifications:

Education: Prefer a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science or a fitness related field; ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, ISSA certification recommended.

Experience: Small business management experience including personnel, budgeting and marketing experience; 2-5 years of experience in commercial fitness.
